Reading Champions
At St John Fisher RC Primary School, we are excited to introduce our new Reading Champions for 2025. These dedicated students have stepped up to play a vital role in promoting a love of reading across our school community.
Roles and Responsibilities
Our Reading Champions have already started their important work, and we are thrilled to see the positive impact they are having. Their responsibilities include:
- Organising and leading reading-themed events and activities for their peers
- Serving as reading mentors and buddies to younger children, helping them develop their literacy skills
- Sharing their passion for reading by recommending books and discussing their favourite stories
- Collaborating with teachers to enhance the reading experience for all children
- Representing the school at community events and engaging with parents and the wider community
Aligning with Our Vision and Values
The Reading Champions programme aligns perfectly with our school's vision and values of Love of God, Love of Self, and Love of Others. By nurturing a love of reading, our champions are not only enriching their own lives but also inspiring their peers to discover the joy and power of the written word.
Through their dedication and enthusiasm, our Reading Champions are living out our values and helping to create a community of lifelong learners who are equipped to succeed in their academic and personal pursuits.
Making a Difference (Spring Term Work)
The positive impact of our Reading Champions is already evident across the school. Children of all ages are eagerly participating in the activities and events organised by the champions.
Already this term, they have created new book marks for those children who regularly change their library book, and given loads of ideas on how to improve our school library, including some new stickers to put up on our walls promoting reading. They are currently hard at work helping us plan World Book Day!
