Welcome to St. Rose of Lima class!
We have an exciting year ahead as we embark on a journey of discovery, building upon learning that has already taken place and challenging each pupil to have the best experience in the year ahead. We aim to provide your children with enriching learning opportunities that will have a positive impact on them.
Our class saint is St. Rose of Lima, who is the patron saint of Peru. The first recognised saint from the Americas, we are inspired by her love of God and her love of others - principles that we aspire to live up to here at St. John Fisher Catholic School.
As part of our journey through Year 2, we have some exciting learning opportunities planned including educational visits, school trips and WOW days - enthusiastically hosted my our dedicated staff at our brilliant school.
We encourage parents to keep an open line of communication with us throughout the year. Your involvement is invaluable, and we truly appreciate any support you can offer—whether it’s sharing skills, resources, or simply words of encouragement. This terms Caritas Curriculum Learning
Are you ready to create, investigate and explore?
Then you are in the right place. This term we will be going on a journey refining our scientific skills. You will be explorers, investigators and inventors! It is time to continue down the time line! So far in Year 2, we have enjoyed exploring prehistory as well as Roman life! Now it is time to go further into the future.
This term we will consider how we can build communities of peace through looking into how technology can create a world that helps others. We will learn about the development of technology through a period of modern time and how advanced our technology has become. We will learn how inventors and engineers have used technology across a broad spectrum.
In science we will learn about forces and electricity and how this enables machines to work. Then using this knowledge, through DT, we will work as a team to design and build your own Junkbot robots. In computing we will participate in a workshop that will teach us how to build a Lego robot which we will then control using and applying algorithms.
Join us on this amazing journey as we explore the world of Magnificent Machines and Robots!
Finally a very important question… Should teachers be replaced by robots?

Home Learning
Home Learning
Home learning will be set on a Monday and is to be completed and handed back by Friday, ready for the next lot of home work to be stuck in and handed back out on Monday. The home learning will consist of a weekly alternating Maths or English task, inline with what the children are learning in class. At times, the home learning may be used as a pre-teaching tool, engaging children with an upcoming topic.
Children will be given house points for their efforts, and we would like to celebrate their learning through posting pictures on the school website for everyone to see.
Spellings
Each week within the home learning, the children will be given a small selection of spellings from the Year 2 common exceptions.
Spellings will be allocated weekly through the home learning books and our online learning page. Children will be encouraged to practise these at home in preparation for a weekly quiz on a Friday.
Reading
Please ensure that your child reads daily. They should be reading a variety of fiction and non-fiction books. It is important that they read to an adult/older sibling as often as possible. Please ask your child questions about what they have read to build up their understanding and encourage them to give opinions about the book.
Reading books will be changed up to twice a week and reading diaries can now be brought to and from school and can be written in. The days the children will read on have been written in their reading diaries. We encourage children to read at home, this can be there school book, library book, magazines or anything that may interest them. This will help them learn new vocabulary and build up on their fluency and understanding of different texts.
Please listen to your child read, then mark the date and page(s) in the diary page and comment if you wish.
Your child will also be given the opportunity to take home a library book to build up a love for reading. Children have the opportunity to change their library books every Wednesday.
