St John Fisher Day

Saint John Fisher (circa October 19, 1469 – June 22, 1535) was an English Bishop, Cardinal, and Martyr within the Roman Catholic Church. His refusal to recognize King Henry VIII as the head of the Church of England led to his execution in the Tower of London during the English Reformation.

On the 22nd of June, 1535, John Fisher, weakened by his ordeal, was led from his cell in the Bell Tower to face charge s of treason. Supported by attendants, he ascended the scaffold clutching his New Testament, delivering his final words:

"MY FELLOW CHRISTIANS, I AM HERE TO LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR THE FAITH OF CHRIST'S CATHOLIC CHURCH... I IMPLORE YOU TO BOLSTER ME WITH YOUR PRAYERS, THAT AS DEATH APPROACHES, MY FAITH REMAINS STEADFAST. I PRAY FOR THE SALVATION OF THE KING AND THE KINGDOM." 

Saint John Fisher was canonized in 1935. His life and martyrdom stand as a testament to the values of learning, holiness, faith, loyalty, and courage, inspiring generations with his devotion to God and others.

How do we celebrate St JOhn Fisher FEast day?

Every year the school marks St John Fisher Day in a number of special ways. Firstly, as a school we come together as a community for a special mass. We listen to the story of St John Fisher and why our faith in God is so important to who we are as individuals and as a school. Our lessons that day focus around St John Fisher and in the afternoon we have a class party to celebrate the day.
