Welcome to St Bernadette Class Page

A very warm welcome to our St Bernadette Class Page.

We are delighted to welcome you and your children to the new school year. Here in St Bernadette Class, we aim to create a happy, nurturing and inspiring learning environment where every child feels valued, confident and excited to learn.

Throughout the year, we will be sharing updates, key information and celebrations of the wonderful learning taking place in our classroom. We believe in strong communication and partnership with parents and carers, so this page will be a place for you to stay informed and engaged with school life.

In St Bernadette Class, we focus on kindness, curiosity and resilience. We encourage children to try their best, support one another, and embrace new challenges with a positive attitude. Together, we will explore a rich and exciting curriculum, build independence, and celebrate each child’s unique gifts and achievements.

We are looking forward to a fantastic year of growth, learning and joy.

Well, it is time to continue down the time line!  In Year 2 we have enjoyed exploring prehistory now it is time to journey further into the amazing period in which one country ruled the known world and that was the ROMANS!

During this topic we will learn how the Romans grew their empire and what were the consequences of taking over other countries. Britain was also part of this empire – we will learn how the Romans arrived at our shores, how they conquered Britain and what did the local Celtic tribes make of these new invaders. We will also be looking into the relationship between the Roman governors to Britain and one special Celtic leader – Queen Boudicca leader of the Iceni tribe who battled with the Romans in the cities of Colchester, London and St Albans.

We will learn about every day Roman life through exploring artefacts, maps, books and researching. We will have the opportunity to continue our skills in writing by exploring free verse poetry and Roman fables. Why not try having a go at designing, creating and making your own Roman pizza? These fantastic creations will be the inspiration for our instructional writing.

We have already mentioned that the Romans came from a different country – do you know what that country is? It’s ITALY!

Maybe you have been there? We will be finding out about this fantastic country and answering questions such as.....where in the world is it? What is it like? Where is our country in relation to Italy? What food do they eat? What type of plants grow there as the climate is so different to ours. To do all this learning we will be using our map skills to find out the location of this fantastic country, find out about the main cities in Italy and compare them with our capital city. In science we will be exploring our natural world by looking at the role and function of plants and what requirements they need to grow. We will also be learning about pollination and the key role it plays in the process of the life cycle of plants.

What an action packed term awaits us!
