What Are Year 4 Learning?

We are delighted to share with you the exciting learning experiences your children have been engaged in recently. This term, our Caritas theme is centred around the concept of 'Love of God' and making a positive difference in our surrounding world. The focus has been on the Sacrament of Reconciliation and confession, emphasising the significance of establishing strong connections with God, our families, and friends.

In Year 4, the pupils have been immersed in exploring the realms of money and time in their mathematical studies. They have shown remarkable dedication in mastering these areas, and we encourage continued practice, particularly with time-telling and monetary skills during the upcoming summer holidays.

Within literacy, the children have been delving into the art of crafting non-fiction reports and scientific writing. Their recent endeavours included utilising causal conjunctions to enrich their writing on friction, with a dedicated emphasis on the crucial practice of reviewing and editing their work.

Our 'Groovy Greeks' topic has further ignited a passion for learning as we delve into the history of the Olympics and its evolving nature over time. As we bask in the spirit of summer sports, we are also excitedly following the Euros tournament.
I am excited to share that Year 4 students recently participated in a music workshop where they had the incredible opportunity to create their own record inspired by NASA's Voyager- The Golden Record. We further enriched this experience by attending a mesmerising performance by the workshop musicians at Harlow Playhouse, showcasing exceptional music talents, including a saxophonist and a synthesiser. A special thank you to Saffron Hall and Mr.Stubbs for facilitating this fantastic experience.
Additionally, we visited The Young V&A in Bethnal Green, where students engaged in interactive learning experiences in small groups, immersing themselves in the museum's offerings. This was followed by a lovely picnic at Victoria Park. The day concluded with a visit to Our Lady of Assumption Church, allowing students to reflect on their day's adventures at. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed these enriching trips, and we look forward to more exciting educational outings in the future.

Please ensure that your child always has the correct kit in school. Earrings are not to be worn for PE lessons. If your child cannot remove their earrings independently then please ensure they are removed before school. PE will take place on ...

Home Learning

Home Learning is given to the children each Monday and needs to be returned by Friday morning. Spellings and times tables tests are conducted each Friday.

Reading: The Reading Records will be checked every Friday. Each child's book should be signed by an adult at least three times every week. Children do need to bring their Reading Record in every day as we endeavour to hear a selection of children read daily.

Times Table Check

In early June, the children will be taking part in the national Multiplication Tables Check. They are expected to know all the times tables, up to 12 x 12, by this point. Please ensure your child practises regularly. Logging on to and using TimesTables RockStars will help with this.
