Inside Out
Year 4 question who is my community as they launch this unit enjoying Blackberry Blue and the effect that traditional tales and fairy stories have on society and our community. By learning how our bodies digest food and the structure of food chains in science we really look at ourselves inside out! Through history we discover how Anglo Saxons built their community and research primary and secondary sources using our safe computing skills and build a picture of their views and how community life has changed over time. Through art that tells stories, we create our own version of Beowulf, a creature who gobbled people up inside out! By learning to sing Mamma Mia in music we really let our emotions lead the go.
Year 4 Caritas Learning Overview
Home learning
Reading Journals
Our reading journals will be changed on Monday and Friday and given out to the children. They will be given a levelled book that should be instructional for them to read. They can also choose a book from the classroom as well as one for the library.
Our library day is Thursday afternoon.
Home-learning
The children will be given their home-learning on Monday to complete for the week. It will be expected back by Friday at the latest in order that it can be marked and the next week's work can be prepared ready for Monday afternoon.
Inside the home-learning book, you will find a Topic page for each half term. The present page is for our topic based on our theme Inside Out. This will change every half-term.
The children will be given a reading comprehension to complete at home as well as times table practice for the children that will need it. This is in order to be prepared for the Year 4 times table test taken by all Year 4 children nationally. There will also be a reasoning or problem solving maths problem for some children to complete themselves.
If there is any concerns or issues with Home-Learning or reading books, please speak to Mrs Spinks or one of our Year 4 staff.
P.E.
Indoor PE is on Tuesday.
Outdoor PE is on Thursday.
Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit for the week.
The girls need to change out of their tights and bring a spare of socks in their PE kit. Many of our girls also wear earings and need to remember to remove these before they come to school on Tuesday and Thursday. We wouldn't want the children to be injured or lose something that is precious to them and you. Staff are also unable to help taking these in and out.
We will be doing outdoor PE during the Autumn months and will need a jumper, preferable not their school jumper. Due to the nature of our PE lessons, it is difficult to wear coats as it will affect their mobility and suppleness.
Other Helpful Hints
In the morning and after school, Mrs Spinks will be available to speak to about any issues or concerns you, the parents, have for your child. If you wish to meet for longer, please arrange a meeting with her either before or after school.
In the morning, the children will come in the class and settle to a task set. Please remind them that this is still learning time and to settle quickly into the tasks set.
At the end of the day, if the blinds are up, the children will sent out to the parents that are seen through the window at 3:15. The rest of the class will then be brought outside onto the patio to wait for collection. Please inform the office if there is an alternative pick-up for your child.
Thank you so much for all your help so far. Your children are incredible and together, we will help them shine!
