Monday 20 January 2025 Peace Projects During the Autumn term, the schools within Our Lady of Fatima Trust have been collaborating on a meaningful project centred on the theme of peace. Each year group explored what peace means to them, engaging in thoughtful discussions and creating some truly special pieces of work. These creations will be showcased throughout our parishes over the coming weeks.

Tuesday 10 December 2024 Show Racism The Red Card Today, our Year 5 and 6 children had the privilege of being visited by Show Racism the Red Card, a charity founded by an ex-Premier League footballer to educate young people on the importance of tackling racism. The day began with a special assembly, followed by engaging workshops in each class.

Friday 6 December 2024 Year 6 Wow Day Today Year 6 had a fantastic Wow Day, where they explored VE Day and the experiences of evacuation during the Second World War.

Monday 18 November 2024 NSPCC Assembly On Monday, the children took part in virtual assemblies provided by the NSPCC’s Speak Out, Stay Safe program. These sessions helped children understand different forms of abuse and the importance of speaking to a trusted adult or contacting Childline if they feel worried or unsafe.

Friday 4 October 2024 Year 3 Harvest Assembly This morning, Year 3 led a beautiful assembly reflecting on the importance of Harvest. They did a fantastic job reminding us of this special time and how it offers an opportunity to fulfil one of our duties as Christians—to support those in need. Thank you to everyone who has already brought in items for donation to the Epping Food Bank. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Friday 27 September 2024 Macmillan Coffee Morning We ended our week with a lovely opportunity to come together as a community in support of Macmillan Cancer Care. A big thank you to everyone who attended and for the generous donations this morning. A thank must also go to our Year 6 children and staff who took a lead in planning and leading this morning’s event.

Friday 20 September 2024 BMX Champion Mike Mullen Today, we were incredibly fortunate to have a special visit from BMX champion Mike Mullen, who came to share his passion for sport and use his personal journey to inspire our students. Mike's story emphasized the power of perseverance and helped our children understand the importance of developing a strong growth mindset. The day was packed with excitement, beginning with a whole school assembly where Mike performed impressive stunts, even involving some of our teachers! Year 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to take part in stunt workshops throughout the day, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

Wednesday 18 September 2024 Bishop Alan Visit Last week, we were truly honoured to have Bishop Alan visit us. He toured the school and was very impressed by the hard work, focus, and kindness shown by everyone. He shared a story about Noah’s Ark with our Reception class and told St Peter & Paul about his two cats waiting for him at home. During a school assembly, we proudly showcased our school values, which Bishop Alan agreed are an integral part of our lives, and he gave us all a very special blessing. I would like to extend my thanks to everyone, including Fr Adrian, for their help and support in making this visit such a memorable occasion. The children will carry this experience with them into their learning and beyond!

Thursday 11 July 2024 Looking To The Future... Last week, our Year 5 and 6 pupils participated in an e-seminar led by the youth empowerment charity Urban Synergy. Their mission is to inspire, ignite, and guide the ambitions of young people. During the seminar, students heard from several leading professionals in the fields of technology, law, medicine, and business, who shared their journeys and answered questions from our students. The speakers praised our children's behaviour and were equally impressed by the quality of their questions. Tuesday 25 June 2024 Year 6 Visit London Zoo Yesterday, Year 6 had a wonderful day at London Zoo! The sun was shining, and our pupils were an absolute credit to St John Fisher School as always.

Thursday 6 June 2024 School Library To Open To Parents We are thrilled to announce that our school library will now be open to parents and children every Tuesday from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm for book selection and exchange! This is a fantastic opportunity for you and your child to explore new stories together and nurture a shared love of reading. Mrs. Cullen will be on hand to offer support and recommendations. We look forward to seeing many of you there, making the most of this exciting new initiative!

Friday 24 May 2024 International Week We have had a busy but fantastic week here at school as we celebrated International Week. Each class focused on one country to learn about but has and also spent time learning about our world and the different languages, cultures, and diversity that make up our school and local community.

Friday 17 May 2024 Champions! A huge congratulations to our Year 6 pupils who won the local handball competition today! Feedback from other adults and staff was that they all performed magnificently and behaved in a manner that fully represented our school values. Well done, everyone; we are very proud of all you have achieved this week!

Tuesday 7 May 2024 Reading Corner Competition At St. John Fisher, we place a significant emphasis on the importance of reading. We believe that fostering a love of reading is key to unlocking the full potential of our students. From carefully selected books integrated into our curriculum to guided reading lessons and visits to the library, our students are provided with numerous opportunities to immerse themselves in the world of literature. Recently, we organised a special competition in school where each class was challenged to create the best reading corner. We are delighted to announce that the award for the most impressive reading corner goes to Mrs. O'Regan's class, who caught our attention with a Harry Potter-themed book corner. As a reward for their creativity and dedication to reading, Mrs. O'Regan's class will be treated to a special surprise. We are incredibly proud of all our students for their enthusiasm and passion for reading!

Friday 26 April 2024 Year 3 Fire Service Visit Today, our Year 3 students had a special visit from our local fire station to learn about the importance of staying safe and the dangers associated with playing with fire. The visit provided an opportunity for the children to ask questions, and there were plenty! They gained a deeper understanding and appreciation for the crucial work carried out by our firefighters. It was a valuable learning experience that reinforced important safety messages in an engaging and memorable way.

Friday 19 April 2024 Year 5 Bikeability This week, a group of our Year 5 students had the fantastic opportunity to participate in Level 1 and 2 bike training provided by Essex Council. Over the course of two days, the children engaged in a variety of activities designed to enhance their biking proficiency. From mastering essential skills to navigating local roads, they embraced the challenges with enthusiasm. It was truly delightful to witness their enjoyment as they honed this invaluable life skill.

Each class had the pleasure of meeting our guest, and our children were overjoyed to receive a delightful Easter egg treat, generously provided by the Lisa Gilbert Academy and coordinated by our dedicated PTA. Friday 1 March 2024 World Book Day We are excited to be celebrating World Book Day next Thursday 7th March. We cannot wait to see your fabulous costumes or your comfiest clothes for reading in! The day promises a plethora of engaging activities, including a book swap, a captivating whole-class assembly, and a delectable special menu outlined in the attached flyer. Additionally, some fortunate classes will have the privilege of hosting Natalie Newman, the esteemed author of 'Lark the Shark.' Ms. Newman will delight students by reading from her book and entertaining their questions. Moreover, after school, she will be offering special copies of her books for sale by the front gate of the school.

Friday 9 February 2024 Healthy Body Healthy Mind A massive thank you to the PTA for their support in organizing an event for our children on Tuesday to celebrate Children's Mental Health Week. Each class had the opportunity to participate in active sessions throughout the day, emphasizing the importance of a healthy body in nurturing a healthy mind. We are hopeful that the lessons learned during this event will inspire our children to integrate physical activity into their daily routines, fostering overall well-being and mental health.

Friday 2 February 2024 Young Voices Last week our incredible School Choir attended Young Voices 2024, hosted at London's iconic O2 arena. Young Voices, a global movement of children's choirs, brings together children from around the world to perform in some of the grandest arenas, spreading the joy of music far and wide. Students immersed in the sheer power of music was a sight to behold. As our choir sang their hearts out alongside thousands of other voices, it was evident how music has the ability to uplift spirits and unite hearts. Among the energetic performances, there was laughter and joy as some of us "old timers" attempted to keep up with the youngsters on the dance floor. It was a beautiful moment of bonding and camaraderie that will be cherished forever.

Friday 26 January 2024 Year 2 - Great Fire Of London Workshop Year 2 had the opportunity today to investigate the Great Fire of London and learn about significant figures such as Samuel Pepys. The workshop led by Epping Forest Museum was a fun and engaging experience for the children who gained a deeper understanding of the fire’s impact on the city and its residents. Thursday 18 January 2024 Great First Week Of Clubs! We have had an incredibly successful first week of clubs here at St John Fisher, featuring an impressive selection of over 22 options available during lunch or after school. A huge thank you goes out to our dedicated staff who lead this diverse array of clubs, including art, yoga, tennis, multi-skills, and many more. The commitment from our teachers have resulted in over 120 children actively participating in our extracurricular program. It's truly heartening to witness our students exploring new skills and embracing another important aspect of the St John Fisher experience. We can't wait to share later in the term how the children have been getting on and the joy they have had beyond the classroom.

Thursday 11 January 2024 Year 6 - 'Being Human' Year 6 have embarked on an exciting journey into their new Topic this week -'Being Human.' Taking their learning beyond the classroom, the students recently ventured outdoors to explore the fascinating world of anatomy. Armed with stencils and enthusiasm, they creatively used their own bodies to label internal organs, turning the outdoor environment into an interactive canvas for understanding the intricacies of the human body. The outdoor exploration has undoubtedly added an extra layer of excitement to their scientific discoveries.

Monday 18 December 2023 Treasure Island Panto Today was a delightful day for all the students as we were treated to a festive surprise. A special pantomime performance of "Treasure Island" added an extra layer of joy and excitement to our final week before the Christmas holidays. The students thoroughly enjoyed the lively and entertaining show, creating a festive atmosphere that brought smiles and laughter to everyone. It was a wonderful way to kick off the holiday spirit and create lasting memories for our school community. Below are just a few quotes of what children thought of today’s show: "I absolutely loved it. It was very funny!" "I had never seen a panto before. It was good fun, and I would like to go see another one." I really liked the jokes, they were very funny.”
